Wiki Compass

Your personal tour guide that fits in your pocket

There are many travel iOS apps available on the market that provide information about a location when you’re at that spot. If you haven’t done research beforehand or if you don’t have a local guide then WikiCompass will provide this information for you.

This IOS app places Wikipedia’s huge library onto a map on your device’s screen allowing you to learn more about where you are in real time.

WikiCompass utilizes a GPS signal to determine your location then draws information from Wikipedia articles assuming there are some available relating to each location . This app does not work offline it does need an Internet connection to work so please remember this if you are data roaming whilst overseas we have all heard horror international data roaming stories.

WikiCompass is a paid app, it will set you back $1 45 at the time of writing. To get started all you do is launch the app and tap on any location marker that shows up on your screen. This will show an image of the place, the distance from you, the places name and two other icons. Tapping W will launch the Wikipedia page for this location while the hexagon shaped icon will launch the augmented reality view within the app.
